NEW YORK -- The editor who helped discover Julia Child has died. Judith Jones was 93.
Jones died early Wednesday at her summer home in Walden, Vermont. Her stepdaughter, Bronwyn Dunne, said she died of complications from Alzheimer's.
Jones was an editor at Alfred A. Knopf for more than 50 years before retiring in 2011. She was a revolutionary force in American cuisine through her work with Child, Alice Waters and other cookbook authors. She helped introduce English-language readers to "The Diary of Anne Frank" and edited John Updike, Anne Tyler, John Hersey and many others.
Moviegoers would learn about her in "Julie & Julia," the 2009 film starring Meryl Streep as Julia Child and featuring Erin Dilly as Jones.
