A screenplay featuring an alternate timeline in which Barron Trump attempts to "sabotage" his father's 2016 presidential campaign made it onto the annual "blacklist," a ranking of Hollywood’s best unproduced scripts.
Barron: A Tale of Love, Loss & Legacy by screenwriter Nicolas Curcio earned eight votes in a survey of 250 top film executives, landing on the 2019 list. The screenplay imagines a 10-year-old Barron "fearing the devastating impact that his father’s presidency would have on his personal life, his country, and the world at large." The young boy then "sets out to sabotage his father’s 2016 campaign."
Curcio's project does not currently have any producers or financiers attached to it.
President Trump's son, now 13, found himself at the center of a heated debate recently over the children of United States presidents. During an impeachment hearing earlier this month, a Democratic witness took aim at the president by bringing up his youngest son.
"While the president can name his son Barron, he can’t make him a baron," Pamela Karlan said.
First lady Melania Trump fired back at the Stanford Law professor for invoking her son, saying she should "be ashamed" for "using a child" in her "very angry and obviously biased public pandering."
"A minor child deserves privacy and should be kept out of politics," she added.
The first lady's response, however, later backfired when her husband criticized 16-year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg after she was selected as Time magazine's "Person of the Year." Some saw Melania Trump's silence as hypocritical given her recent defense of her son and her "Be Best" imitative to combat online bullying.
The White House defended her decision not to speak out about the president's attacks on Thunberg by arguing: "Their son is not an activist who travels the globe giving speeches. He is a 13-year-old who wants and deserves privacy."
