What are the things that merit a closure of all lanes of Hollywood Boulevard in the heart of Tinseltown for more than 24 hours?

There’s the Oscars … and then?

This week — specifically all of Monday and until 10 a.m. Tuesday — Hollywood Boulevard is closing for the TCL Chinese Theatre premiere of “Jumanji: The Next Level.”

This will be the third “Jumanji” movie, or fourth if you count 2005’s “Zathura: A Space Adventure,” which features characters from the “Jumanji” universe who decide not to play the titular board game and instead play one called — you guessed it — “Zathura,” which sends them on a series of adventures.

The original 1995 “Jumanji,” about a mysterious game that literally sucks its players into a fantastical world — and starring the now-late Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, David Alan Grier, Bonnie Hunt, Bradley Pierce, Jonathan Hyde and Bebe Neuwirth — grossed $263 million worldwide on a budget of $65 million.

The 2017 sequel “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, Bobby Cannavale, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain and Madison Iseman, earned more than $962 million at the box office.

The new, Hollywood Boulevard-closing “Jumanji: The Next Level” brings back stars Johnson, Hart, Black, Gillan, Jonas, Wolff, Turner, Blain and Iseman and adds Awkwafina, Danny Glover and Danny DeVito to the cast for another adventure inside the magic board game.

And now back to Hollywood Boulevard …

Question: So how rare is it for the city to close an entire block of the street to traffic?

Answer: Not so rare.

The same thing is happening Dec. 14-18 for the new “Star Wars” movie, and Jan. 13-15 for “Bad Boys for Life.”
