PARIS - Cannes Film Festival organizers have announced its 2019 line up, which pits revered directors such as Ken Loach, Jim Jarmusch, Terrence Malick, and Pedro Almodovar against each other in competition for the top Palme d'Or prize.
The 19 entries announced Thursday in Paris include Jarmusch's "The Dead Don't Die," a zombie comedy with Adam Driver and Bill Murray. It will open the May 14-25 festival on a starry, and surreal, note.
Malick, who won the top prize in 2011, will return with "A Hidden Life," about an Austrian anti-Nazi conscientious objector.
Almodovar will show "Pain and Glory," featuring Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas as an aging filmmaker.
Oscar-winning director Alejandro Inarritu will preside over the judging panel.
A biopic about Elton John, "Rocketman," will be screened out of competition.
