TORONTO -- Shawn Mendes laced up his ice skates and offered James Corden his first lesson in hockey goalkeeping for the latest edition of "Carpool Karaoke."
The 19-year-old Canadian pop star appeared on the comedy sing-along segment, which aired Monday night as part of a week-long residency on Corden's late-night show.
Together the pair sang tracks from Mendes' new self-titled album, including "In My Blood" and "Nervous," as well as past hits "Mercy" and "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back."
But they pulled the car over after Corden asked the singer to name "the most Canadian thing" about himself. Mendes said he used to play hockey.
When the British host told Mendes he'd never played ice hockey in his life, the two decided to hit up a rink together, with Corden suited up as goalie.
"If you're a goalie you don't have to move much," Mendes explained.
"You just stand there and let me take shots at you."
Corden fumbled his way through blocking Mendes' goal shots, eventually landing on his knees.
"This is my first and last time playing ice hockey," he said before retiring from the game.
Corden covered a range of other topics with Mendes, including the singer's recent decision to move away from his parents' home in Pickering, Ont. and set up independently in Toronto.
"I have my own place, finally, which at first sucked because cooking for yourself and cleaning your house just sucks, until it's actually kind of nice," Mendes said.
"You don't clean your own house," Corden responded.
"I do a little bit," Mendes said. "Like, no I don't, you're right. My mom still helps."
They also talked about how much they'd be willing to pay for a pair of Justin Bieber's underpants and Mendes' obsession with Harry Potter.
The singer will perform on Corden's show until Thursday night.
