'I love you so much sis': Selena Gomez thanks friend for kidney transplant

Selena Gomez has revealed that she received a kidney transplant from her actress friend Francia Raisa, in an Instagram post that shows the pair in side-by-side hospital beds.

Gomez says she was “laying low for part of the summer” to recover from the surgery, which was performed due to her lupus. The singer was originally diagnosed with the disease in 2015.

“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” Gomez wrote on Instagram. “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”

Gomez urged her followers to donate to Lupus research, and promised to share more details about the procedure in the future.
