Terror threat and slowing growth the focus as Davos gets under way

A string of jihadist attacks and rising risks to the global economy overshadow the opening Wednesday of the annual gathering of the world's rich and powerful in a snow-blanketed Swiss ski resort. The heightened security threat was starkly in evidence in Davos itself, with police carrying machineguns patrolling the streets and concrete blocks placed in front of key venues. China's GDP grew at its slowest in a quarter of a century last year, figures showed Tuesday.
