KC And The Sunshine Band Lead Singer Harry Wayne Casey On Recovery After Going 'Crazy On Drugs'

You know KC and the Sunshine Band from some of their biggest old-school hits, including "Get Down Tonight," "That's The Way (I Like It)" and "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty." But while the band was reveling in fame and fortune, lead singer Harry Wayne Casey was struggling with a serious drug addiction.

It's taken Casey 40 years of being famous to "figure it all out" and feel "comfortable" and "relaxed" with who he is, he told HuffPost Live's Nancy Redd on Monday.

"It happened so quickly, and I got caught up in it. Actually, at the height of my career was the loneliest time of my life," he said. "Because we'd be in a hotel and there'd be 5,000 people out front and I'd be up in my room looking down and I'd want to be in the middle of that crowd. And I just felt so isolated and so disconnected from life and from the planet, really."

In the midst of so much success, Casey retired in the mid-'80s and then "really went crazy on drugs." But after rehab, therapy and "a lot of thought and prayers," Casey said he "found the answers."

Now that he's in a "great place," he's enjoying the process of releasing a new covers album, "Feeling You! The '60s," the band's first record in over a decade.
