John Oliver wants to bring back the true meaning of April 1st — and it's got nothing to do with pulling an April Fools' Day prank or hoax.
It's "the day we traditionally look at our calendars and think, 'Oh shit, I really have to do my taxes,'" Oliver said in a clip posted online in lieu of his HBO show, "Last Week Tonight," which was off on Sunday.
Explaining that April Fools' Day pranks are for sociopaths, Oliver is asking his viewers to take the "No Prank Pledge," because "April Fools' Day is to comedy as to St. Patrick's Day is to Irish Culture," he said. "It is a mockery of the very concept that usually ends in a fistfight."
