This is a dream come true. Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer of "Broad City" sat down with Carrie Brownstein, Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss of Sleater-Kinney at New York's Ace Hotel for an NPR-sponsored interview. Over the course of an hour and 20 minutes, the five women spoke about the band's new album "No Cities To Love," comedy, the "tribe of Sleater-Kinney," writing processes and social consciousness.
One theme that ran through the entire interview was feminism. "Is it frustrating to be defined as female-fronted and female-centric?" Glazer asked. "We're always called 'women comics,' like, is this my badge?" Both Sleater-Kinney and "Broad City" commiserated about their work being prefaced by the term "all-female." "No one’s ever asked the question, ‘Why did you decide to be in a band with all men?'” Brownstein said. "Who wants to be a white male? I don’t."
