The 'Late Show With Stephen Colbert' Officially Has An Air Date

CBS has announced that the "Late Show With Stephen Colbert" is set to air Sept. 8 from the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City.

“The production office is open, the premiere date is set, and we’re incredibly excited to welcome the creative and comedic genius of Stephen Colbert to CBS late night this fall,” Nina Tassler, Chairman of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement.

Colbert will be replacing the legendary David Letterman, who announced his plans to retire back in April. Letterman aired the last installment of his 32-year-run as host on May 20.

"Well, I'm thrilled as well," Letterman said while interviewing Colbert after the news had been revealed. "In a situation like this ... they could have just as easily hired another boob like me."

Colbert said goodbye to his Comedy Central show, "The Colbert Report," with a surreal finale in December. He officially sealed off his character's immortality, signing off with the already iconic: “From eternity, I’m Stephen Colbert.

The last episode included Colbert's deliberate breaking of character. As host of the "Late Show," the version of Colbert we've come to known on the "Report" will be gone. Although, the format this new hosting gig is still in the process of being fine-tuned.

There will be music on the show [and] he certainly will have guests on the show. Whether he starts with an opening monologue, he’s working on that right now," Tassler said (via TVLine). The goal seems to be "letting him do what he wants to do ... There will be parts that will be traditionally, and there will be things he wants to try differently.” Read More http://ift.tt/1BUyAyX
