"Transparent," Amazon's story about a transgender woman coming out to her family, took home the Golden Globe for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy. The series beat out three-time nominee "Girls" as well as category newcomers "Silicon Valley," "Orange is the New Black" and "Jane the Virgin." The series garnered rave reviews during its first season, which is apparent by the win. As a rookie series, this was the first nomination "Transparent" in the best comedy category at the Globes. It's also the first Globes win in the top category for Amazon's streaming platform.
Creator Jill Soloway accepted the award, and dedicated it to the memory of Leelah Alcorn, a trans teen who committed suicide in December.
"Orange is the New Black" star Laverne Cox shared her approval of the speech on Twitter:
